Coramba Nature Reserve

The Coramba Nature Reserve provides a one-of-a-kind chance to explore protected rainforests along the Orara River. This area is a paradise for birdwatching enthusiasts, offering a diverse range of bird species to observe and enjoy.

Established in 1982, the Reserve was created to protect one of the few remaining stands of subtropical lowland rainforest along the Orara River. Today, visitors can wander through this remnant of native vegetation, enveloped by towering old-growth trees. Experience the breathtaking beauty of nature beneath a dense canopy that has been rejuvenated through a rainforest regeneration project.

As you stroll along the river, you’ll encounter diverse plant life, including white booyong, pepperberry, giant stinging trees, and various ficus species. Additionally, during the wetter months, the fungi display a stunning array of colours, ranging from vivid pink to yellow, white, and orange.

The reserve is teeming with fascinating wildlife. Listen for the calls of giant barred frogs on warm summer evenings or catch a glimpse of yellow-bellied gliders and long-nosed potoroos throughout the year. Sightings of wompoo and rose-crowned fruit doves, fig birds, noisy pittas, brown cuckoo doves, and white-headed pigeons will delight birdwatchers.
